Nominees Needed for 2010-2011 PTA Board
It is time once again to nominate and elect candidates for the positions of President, 1st V.P.,
2nd V.P., Secretary and Treasurer. If you or someone you know would like to be considered
for any of the above positions, please contact Louisa Brunson, Nominating Committee Chair, at
Louisa.Kohl-Brunson@kellerisd.net. All nominees will be contacted so that they can be
informed of requirements and duties. Nominations and election of officers will be held at our
March 8th PTA meeting held in the cafeteria at 6 p.m.
Mother/Daughter Event
IES PTA invited all the super cool Maverick Girls and Rock-n-Roll Moms to a pajama party and
our Locks of Love "Big Haircut Event" last Friday, March 5. Moms and daughters wore their
pajamas and had yummy pizza and drinks. The girls also brought their American Girl Dolls or
favorite stuffed animals and enjoyed a fun craft, a nail polish and colored hairspray center, and
visiting with their school friends. We had 14 Mavericks (and 3 moms) who had been letting
their hair grow all year to donate to Locks of Love. Excitement was in the air as the countdown
started and scissors began cutting off all the ponytails. Channel 11 News and the Keller Citizen
came out to report on the event. Some of the girls will also be on Good Morning Texas on
Thursday, March 11, at 9 a.m. to show off their new haircuts during a segment on kids helping
kids. IES PTA is so proud of our Mavericks "giving back"!
Villages of Woodland Springs 5K and Fun Run
Saturday, March 27, 9 a.m.
The Villages of Woodland Springs has asked us to inform IES parents of their Bunny Hop 5K
and Fun Run being held on March 27. All residents of Woodland Springs are encouraged to
participate in this healthy, family-focused event. Proceeds will be donated to Christ's Haven for
Children. The event will include a 5K run and a fun run for families. For more information go to
www.woodlandspringshoa.com and click on the community calendar.
Pre-order New Spirit Wear
Pre-orders are being taken for our new hooded sweatshirts and pajama pants! Look for the
order form on the back of the IES PTA Express March newsletter. The spirit shop is open
during the lunch hours on the last Friday of each month.
Yearbook Committee Needs Your Pictures!
If you'd like to share pictures you have taken throughout the school year with the entire school,
just click on the yearbook link for instructions. Pictures can be submitted until mid-March. If
you haven't ordered your yearbook yet, there's still time. Pick up an order form at the front
office and turn it in by March 31. Let's make the 2009-10 yearbook a work of art and also have
every student represented!
Hollywood Night Dance
A great time was had by all who attended our Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dance on Friday,
February 19. Everyone walked the red carpet and pretended to be a star. There was great
music and dancing, pizza and drinks sold by the 3rd grade for their upcoming Sky Ranch trip,
and lots of fun souvenirs. If you had pictures taken on the stage, check out Marco Gabaldon's
website (www.gabaldonphotography.com) to view and purchase them. Thank you to all those
who helped make this event a wonderful memory for our students.
PTA Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations Van Montgomery, our PTA Volunteer of the Month for February. Thanks also
to the many other volunteers at IES for all their hard work and dedication!
Nurse Requests
The IES nurse is requesting donations of lice kits and underwear for both girls and boys.
